Peckham x Pocket Places x Plan Ahead

As part of Pocket Places, we were commissioned by Sustrans to take an unused, unloved area in Peckham (the Bournemouth Close sheds) and activate and reposition it for the community (It is what we do). We began working with Peckham residents along Rye Lane, exchanging food stories and recipes as passerby’s collected their shopping. Second, we worked with a collection of small independent businesses near Bournemouth Close on Rye Lane to gather recipes and cultural knowledge of the area’s diverse community. We then branched out in the neighbourhood, participating in workshops hosted by Pecan Food Bank and partnered with local chefs to cook the recipes we collected for the community while we painted the mural.

Sustrans commissioned Gourmandizing for the Pocket Places project because their work is inherently linked to a community, through food they understand how to make a connection with people.The work they have done in the area brought beauty, humanity and humour to a neglected pedestrian route and the community has reacted with warmth and appreciation.
