Buzz (White Noise) was a collaboration between Mesh Workshop with Gourmandizing London.
The project was funded by the London Festival of Architecture with support from Team London Bridge and UKPN.
White noise can be the all-encompassing, nearly atmospheric property of our daily living in the urban environment. The sounds of people en masse gathered in one space- such as London Bridge - the culmination of all those audible micro and macro actions people conduct with the layering of the more robust acoustics of multiple trains pulling in and out of the station is part of the buzz. This frenetic hum of the substation at the foot of the station's entrance and egress at the Bermondsey Street taxi rank is similar to the static sounds, the after-glow of the big bang, which (arguably) blankets our entire universe. It is these familiar sounds - coupled more specifically to our murals purpose - illustrating the low-level frequency emitted by our contributors' place of business. We tried to capture the additional, otherwise sonorous buzz from within their busy dining experience and project that onto our quietly humming canvas.
